Service Project Archives

Our Service Projects During 2010 - 2011:

We were very busy during our fourth year as Scouts! We completed over 30 service projects with over 540 hours volunteered! All troop members earned GSNEO's Year of Service Award and the Silver Level President's Volunteer Service Award! Great job! We are headed towards the gold level this coming year!

We completed the tornado relief collection in May!

We collected good, used items for WPUMC's rummage sale!

We completed the USO cookie collection in March!

We participated in the "Make It Don't Take It" card making service project offered at Pat Catan's in Warren on 2/4/11 where we made Valentine's Day cards for local nursing home residents.

We organized a canned goods collection during McDonald GS Game Night on 1.28.11. Troops 225 and 226 participated with us. We purchased some additional items during our next meeting, where all donations will be provided to the Second Harvest Foodbank. We were also in the news...The Review 2.17.11.

We made cards for Tina, a family member of one of our troop members on 1.11.11.

We completed a canned goods collection during Winterfest on 12.20.10 in cooperation with our GS Service Unit 812.

We completed Project Linus on 11.30.10 We made The Review on 12/09/10, GSNEO Weekly News, and the GSNEO Holiday News! We were also in the news...The Review 12.09.10.

We completed a canned goods collection for the Second Harvest Foodbank and Goodwill Good Turn Day and were in The Review on 11/11/10 and GSNEO Weekly News. We were also in the news...The Review 11.11.10.

We made front page of The Review on 10/28/10 for our service project completed on Make a Difference Day where we completed our second annual Reverse Trick-or-Treat event where we provide the jokes and goodies. We also made GSNEO Weekly News . We were also in the news...The Review 10.28.10.

Our first project was a school kit collection in conjunction with our sponsor and UMCOR.

 

Our Service Projects During 2009 - 2010:

Since recycling is an ongoing activity, we will continue this project into the 2009 - 2010 year. This will be our pop tab collection. Our sponsor is collecting pop tabs to recycle. Scouts may bring in tabs to contribute to this recycling effort.

CONGRATULATIONS TROOP 344 ON EARNING THE US PRESIDENT'S VOLUNTEER SERVICE AWARD!!! Check out our photos of our award presentation at McDonald's Roosevelt Elementary School. Thanks to our Principal for helping with our award ceremony! Great job on this achievement!

Check us out on-line in the NEWS! We have been in GSNEO's weekly eNews updates as well as The Review Newspaper for our service and Flat Stacie Project. We were also in the news...The Review on 4.08.10, 3.18.10, 1.14.10, 11.12.09, and 10.29.09.

We once again completed the GSNEO Year of Service Project for a second year in a row! Great job!!!

Our May project consisted of us collecting items for the Animal Welfare League of Warren.

Our April project consist of making health kits! On April 6th we went to Dollar General to purchase items as we learned how to be smart shoppers to make Health Kits to send to UMCOR. This is our Bronze Award Project, and is being coordinated and planned by our Junior scout, who is working with our sponsor WPUMC. .

Our March projects consist of cookie donations! We collected for Service Men and Women as well as completed a Gift of Caring collection for the Warren Family Mission.

*Our February project was in conjunction with our sponsor, to host a collection for the Second Harvest Foodbank. We collected donations all month, with a special collection for McDonald GS Game Night - you guessed - canned good donations. Our collection ended with a facility tour to learn more about what happens with our donations. Check out our link above for March 18th where we made the paper! We collected 175 pounds of food to feed 117 people! Great job!

*Some of our scouts participated in Service Projects during January and February as offered by Roosevelt Elementary School. The Januaryproject was "Haiti Hat Day" where you donate a dollar to wear a hat as a collection which the February project was canned goods for the Center of Hope. Way to branch out into the community!

*We actually completed two January projects. The first was in conjunction with our sponsor, when we collected hats, mittens /gloves for the Warren Family Mission. The second project consisted of a "Make It Don't Take It" project held at Pat Catan's in Warren, where we went to the craft store and made valentines which will be donated to local nursing homes.

*Our December activities included making cards and flag banners for the Cleveland VA Hospital and grocery shopping for the Second Harvest Foodbank.

*Our November activity was the Goodwill / Good Turn Day held on Saturday, November 7th. We loaded up our bags of donations and took them down to Goodwill on Belmont Avenue.

*Our October activity was held on Saturday, October 24th in support of Make a Difference Day. We did a reverse Trick-or-Treat at the WoodlandPark Retirement Apartments where we brought the tricks and treats for the tenants.

 

Our Service Projects During 2008 - 2009:

We were very busy with service projects during our first year as Brownies! We completed 15 service projects during the 2008 - 2009 year, and all troop members met all requirements for GSNEO's Year of Service Award.

Our troop recorded 165 hours of troop service! Way to go!

Our service projects completed include:

1) Thanks to those who participated in the collections for the Beatitude House (a Youngstown / Warren based agency who supports local disadvantaged women and children) which was held October 5th - 26th, 2008.

2) October 25, 2008 was Make a Difference Day. We worked on service projects for the Cleveland Veterans Hospital along with active duty service men and women. Thanks to all who participated! We even received letters / photos back from the recipients which were shared with the brownies at a troop meeting.

3) November 1, 2008 was Goodwill / Good Turn Day. We collected items to donate and dropped them off at the Youngstown Goodwill. Thanks to all who participated! We earned a Goodwill / Good Turn Day fun patch in addition to helping others.

4) November 3rd - 16th, 2008 was a non-perishable food collection to support the Emmanuel Community Center (a Girard based agency who supports local people in need). Thanks to all who participated!

5) November 9th - 30th, 2008 was a hat / mitten collection for infants, children, and teens to support the United Methodist Community Center (a Warren based agency who supports local people in need). Thanks to all who participated!

6) We participated in awareness for the spaghetti dinner benefit held at the Girard United Methodist Church on November 23, 2008 as detailed in The Review.

7) Our troop also had several members participate in the baked goods donation for the bake sale held during the spaghetti dinner benefit on November 23, 2008. Thanks to all ho participated!

8) December 2, 2008 our troop participated in the 3rd GSNEO Year of Service Project. We visited the Woodland Park Retirement Apartments.

9) Christmas dinner drive for a local family was held in December 2008.

10) Someplace Safe collection was completed in January 2009.

11) Second Harvest Food Bank collection was held in February 2009.

12) USO Operation Sweet Appreciation collection was completed in March 2009.

13) In April 2009 we went to Austinwoods Center - we played bingo with the residents.

14) The Nike Grind Shoe collection was completed in April 2009.

15) The Suitcase Collection was completed in May 2009.

16) Each troop member has completed all requirements for the GSNEO Year of Service Award. The specific events completed as requirements for this award are as follows:

  • Oct 25th was Make a Difference Day
  • Nov 1st was the GSNEO Goodwill Drive
  • Dec 2nd was a local service project
  • Jan 2009 was Martin Luther King Jr. Service collection for Someplace Safe (a rumbull County Domestic Violence Agency)
  • Feb 2009 was Harvest for Hunger collection for the Second Harvest Food Bank
  • March 2009 was USO Operation Sweet Appreciation
  • April 2009 was The Nike Grind Shoe Collection
  • May 2009 was The Suitcase Collection
